[Case study - 01] Sanipro XR pump adds a basement toilet at Titan Tower HCMC

At Titan Tower, the basement serves as a parking area for office employees and also caters to the needs of café customers and staff. However, the area did not have a suitable restroom, while its location was difficult to connect to the drainage system and unsuitable for building a new manhole. To meet this need, the building installed a Sanipro XR pump to add a restroom, collect, macerate and pump wastewater to the septic tank.

The challenge

Titan Tower needed to add a basement toilet for customers and employees using the parking area and café. However, they could not use the toilets inside the offices above, while the basement location was difficult to connect to the natural drainage system.

Building a new sump pit could have required cutting into the concrete floor and adding further construction work. This could have increased the project scope and affected the operation of the parking area.

The project therefore needed a solution that suited the existing layout, connected the required sanitary fixtures and directed wastewater to the building’s existing septic tank.

Project requirements

The project required a solution that could add a complete basement toilet in a limited space, connect the required sanitary fixtures and pump wastewater to the building’s existing septic tank. The installation also needed to limit floor work and avoid disrupting the existing parking area.

The main requirements were:

• Add a complete toilet facility in the basement.
• Connect the required sanitary fixtures.
• Pump wastewater to the building’s septic tank.
• Avoid building a new sump pit through the traditional approach.
• Limit concrete floor cutting and disruption to the existing space.
• Provide convenient access for customers and employees.

These requirements made a macerator pump solution suitable for consideration. Instead of relying only on natural gravity drainage, the project could collect wastewater at the toilet location and pump it to the existing receiving point.

The Sanipro XR solution

Sanipro XR is a macerator pump suitable for toilet rooms with multiple sanitary fixtures in locations that are difficult to connect to a drainage system. It collects black water from the toilet and grey water from connected fixtures. Solid waste is macerated into a fine slurry before the wastewater is pumped to the receiving point.

Sanipro XR can connect to a toilet, basin, bidet, urinal and high-output shower according to the product information provided. It has a maximum flow rate of 95 L/min, a maximum discharge height of 5 m and a maximum horizontal discharge length of 100 m.

For the Titan Tower project, Sanipro XR was selected to pump wastewater from the basement toilet to the building’s septic tank. By collecting, macerating and pumping the wastewater, the system reduced the project’s reliance on natural drainage.

Project implementation

The implementation focused on surveying the basement layout, confirming the discharge pipe route and connecting Sanipro XR to the sanitary fixtures. The connections, discharge point and power supply were checked according to the model requirements before the toilet was put into use.

The main steps included:

1. Surveying the equipment location and the pipe route from the basement to the building’s septic tank.
2. Confirming the pipe direction based on the 12 m horizontal discharge distance.
3. Connecting Sanipro XR to the sanitary fixtures according to the project configuration.
4. Installing the discharge pipe to the receiving point.
5. Checking the water supply, power supply and tightness of the connections.
6. Running a test flush to check wastewater collection, maceration and pumping.

The installation was completed within a few hours, or less than one day. This helped limit disruption to the parking area and the other facilities operating in the building.

Project results

Sanipro XR enabled Titan Tower to add a complete basement toilet without building a new sump pit through the traditional approach. The system met the project’s actual discharge distance and provided an additional toilet facility for customers and employees using the parking area and café.

Pumping wastewater to the building’s septic tank helped the project avoid constructing an additional sump pit in the basement. The parking area and café therefore gained a separate toilet facility that was more convenient for people using these spaces.
